Mustang Basketball Teams Fall at Mines

Western New Mexico's basketball teams fell in to Colorado School of Mines Saturday in Golden, CO in their first RMAC road trip. The men's team managed only 35 percent from the floor as the Orediggers handed Western a 79-50 loss. The loss moved the Mustangs to 4-5 (1-2), while Mines improved to 5-3, 2-1.

Junior Trey Clarkson (Tucson, AZ/Sal Pointe High School) led WNMU with 11 points in a game that saw 11 Mustangs play, 10 of whom scored.

The WNMU women's team also found the going tough against Mines, falling 63-45 after shooting a chilly 31 percent from the field. Crystal Smith (Sr., El Paso) led Western with 12 points. Tanmesia Manley also made it to double figures with 10 points.

The Western women fell to 1-5 (1-2) with the loss, while Mines improved to 3-6 (2-1).

The men return to the floor Thursday (Dec. 21) when they travel to Las Cruces to take on New Mexico State. The women are off until Friday, Dec. 29, when they will play in a UC San Diego holiday tourney, meeting host UCSD the first night, and Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, the event's second night.
